Materials
• Yarn of your choice

• 10 mm crochet hook

• 6 mm crochet hook
⸻
Abbreviations (US terms)
• ch — chain
• sl st — slip stitch
• sc — single crochet
• dc — double crochet
• tr — treble crochet
⸻
Notes
• This pattern is worked in turned rows.
• Spacing: You can use any number of stitches between flowers / butterflies, but it should always be an odd number.
• The flowers / butterflies are worked directly into the fabric — no cutting the yarn.
• The final row should be a row without flowers / butterflies.
⸻
Step 1: Foundation Chain
Choose an odd number (k) — this is the number of stitches between motifs.
Add 1 stitch → this gives one full repeat.
Choose n = number of repeats (based on your desired width).
⸻
Formula:
(k + 1) × n + k
Where:
• k = stitches between motifs (must be odd)
• n = number of repeats
⸻
Example flower version (5 stitches between motifs):
(5 + 1) × 4 + 5 = 29 stitches
Example butterfly version (11 stitches between motifs):
(11 + 1) × 4 + 11 = 59 stitches
⸻
Step 2: Row 1
Work dc across the entire row.

Shape Variation (Triangle Version)
To create a triangular shape, work decreases on both sides in every row.
As the piece narrows, gradually reduce the number of motifs to maintain the shape.
⸻
Step 3: Row 2
Pattern:
5 dc – flower – 5 dc – flower – 5 dc – flower … flower – 5 dc
Work 5 dc, then create a flower.
After each flower, skip the next stitch, then continue with 5 dc.
Repeat across the row.

⸻
Step 4: How to Make the Flower
After working the required number of dc before the flower:
1. Work 5 dc
2. Ch 1
3. Insert hook into the top of the 5th dc and make sc
→ this creates a small ring
Now work 5 petals into that ring.
Petal 1 and 2
• ch 2
• 2 dc into ring
• ch 2
• sl st into ring
Petal 3
• ch 2
• 1 dc into ring
• 1 dc into the ring from the opposite side of the center bar
• ch 2
• sl st into ring
Petal 4 and 5
Repeat Petal 1
Then continue the row.

How to Make the Butterfly
After working the required number of dc before the motif:
- Work 5 dc
- Ch 1
- Insert hook into the top of the 5th dc and make sc
→ this creates a small ring
Now work the butterfly wings into that ring.
⸻
Wing 1
• ch 2
• 1 dc into ring
• 1 tr into ring
• ch 3
• sl st into ring
⸻
Wing 2 (mirrored)
• ch 3
• 1 tr into ring
• 1 dc into ring
• ch 2
• sl st into ring from the opposite side of the center bar
⸻
Wing 3
• ch 2
• 1 dc into ring
• 2 tr into ring
• 1 dtr into ring
• ch 6
• sl st into ring
⸻
Head
• ch 3
• sl st into ring
⸻
Wing 4 (mirrored)
• ch 6
• 1 dtr into ring
• 2 tr into ring
• 1 dc into ring
• ch 2
• sl st into ring
⸻

Then continue the row.
⸻
Step 5: Row 3
Work across in dc.
In the flower sections, work treble crochet (tr) into the stitch of the previous-previous row (that means into Row 1).

Turn.
⸻
Step 6: Row 4
Pattern:
2 dc – flower – 5 dc – flower – 5 dc – flower … flower – 2 dc

Turn.
⸻
Step 7: Row 5
Repeat Row 3:
Work across in dc, and in the flower sections work tr into the stitch of the previous-previous row.

Turn.
⸻
Step 8: Pattern Repeat
Repeat the following rows until the piece reaches your desired length:
Row 2 → Row 3 → Row 4 → Row 5
Continue repeating this sequence.
The final row should be a non-flower row.
Example:
I worked 19 rows total.

Example:
I worked 29 rows total.

⸻
Step 9: Edge Finish
Work 1 row of dc.
Then work sc evenly along:
• both side edges
• the bottom edge

⸻
Step 10: Back Ties
Make one long tie:
• ch 200
• after each chain, tighten slightly with your thumb to create a firmer cord

⸻
Step 11: Blocking Tip
If the flowers curl inward and you want a more defined floral texture:
• lightly wet the piece
• gently open and shape each flower
• leave flat to dry
⸻
Finished
