The top of the bag is finished with solid rows and two built-in handles.

Start with a magic ring.

Ch 2 (counts as first dc)

Work 11 dc into the ring (12 stitches total).

Join with sl st and tighten the ring.

Turn.

Round 2

Ch 2, turn.

Work 2 dc into each stitch around.

Join with sl st.

Round 3

Ch 2, turn.

1 dc, 2 dc in next stitch repeat around.

Join.

Round 4

Ch 2, turn.

2 dc, 2 dc in next stitch repeat around.

Join.

Continue increasing this way, adding 1 stitch between increases each round:

Round 5: increase every 3 stitches

Round 6: increase every 4 stitches

Round 7: increase every 5 stitches

Round 8: increase every 6 stitches

Continue until the base measures approximately 11.5 in (29 cm).

Example shown: 8 rounds total.

Step 2: Solid Body

Work 3 rounds of dc without increases.

Ch 2 at the beginning of each round.

Turn after joining.

Step 3: Row 4 - Mesh Row

Ch 3, turn.

The ch 3 counts as the first dc.

Ch 1.

Skip next stitch.

Dc into next stitch.

Repeat:

ch 1, skip 1 stitch, dc into next stitch

Continue around.

Join with sl st into turning chain.

Step 4: Row 5

Begin with 3 mesh cells.

Small Flower

After completing 3 mesh cells:

Ch 1.

Insert hook into the top of the last dc (edge of the mesh cell) and work 1 sc.

This creates a small ring.

Petals (5 total)

Petal 1 & 2

• ch 2

• 1 dc into ring

• ch 2

• sl st into ring

Petal 3

• ch 2

• 1 dc into ring

• ch 2

• sl st into ring from the opposite side of the center bar

Petal 4 & 5

Repeat Petal 1.

After completing the flower:

Make sure the flower is facing the correct side and is not twisted.

Dc into the next stitch and continue the mesh pattern.

After 3 mesh cells:

Large Layered Flower

Ch 1.

Insert hook into the top of the last dc and make 1 sc.

This creates a small ring.

Ch 1.

Work 6 sc into the ring.

Arrange them evenly:

• 3 stitches on one side

• 3 stitches on the opposite side of the center bar

Sl st into ring.

First Layer of Petals

Into the back loop of each sc:

• ch 3

• work 2 tr together with a shared top (tr2tog)

• ch 3

• sl st into the same stitch

Repeat around.

You will have 6 petals total.

For the sixth petal:

Work tr2tog, ch 3 and join with sl st into the ring.

Second Layer of Petals

Work into the front loops of the 6 base sc stitches.

For each petal:

• ch 2

• dc into front loop only of the next sc

• ch 2

• sl st into the same stitch

Repeat around.

After the sixth petal, join with sl st into the ring.

After completing the flower:

Make sure the flower lies flat and is not twisted.

Dc into the next stitch and continue the mesh pattern.

Continue alternating:

• 3 mesh cells

• small flower

• 3 mesh cells

• large flower

Repeat across the row.

Join with sl st.

Step 5: Row 6 - Mesh Row

Ch 3, turn.

Work one full mesh row without flowers.

Step 6: Row 7 - Offset Small Flowers

Work only small flowers.

Place them between the flowers from the previous flower row, creating a staggered layout.

Join.

Step 7: Row 8 - Mesh Row

Repeat Row 6.

Step 8: Row 9 - Offset Flower Row

Repeat the flower row with both small and large flowers.

This time, place them in a staggered layout relative to the previous flower row.

The large flowers should sit between the large flowers of the previous row.

Continue repeating this pattern until the desired height is reached.

Example shown:

• 11 rows total

• Last row is mesh only, without flowers

Step 9: Upper Solid Section

After the final mesh row:

Work 3 rounds of dc without increases.

Step 10: Handles

Count the total number of stitches.

Example shown:

96 stitches total.

Allocate:

• 20 stitches for each handle

• 28 stitches between handles

Calculation:

96 total stitches

96 − 40 = 56

56 ÷ 2 = 28

Handle opening:

Approximately 6.5 in wide.

Handle length:

13 in.

Begin round:

Work 28 dc.

Ch 35.

Skip 20 stitches.

Continue with 28 dc.

Create the second handle the same way.

Join with sl st.

Step 11: Finishing

Work 2 rounds of dc around the entire bag, including the handles.

Then work 1 final round of sc evenly around.

Also work sc evenly around the handle openings.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Done!
