CROCHET CORSET TOP — VIDEO TUTORIAL & PATTERN

This corset-style top is worked in separate shaped sections and then assembled.

The fit is fully customizable based on your own measurements.

Materials

• 6 mm crochet hook

• Main color cotton yarn — approx. 2.5 skeins (120 yd / 2.5 oz per skein)

• White cotton yarn — approx. 0.5 skein (185 yd / 3.5 oz skein)

• Measuring tape

• Yarn needle

Abbreviations (US terms)

ch — chain

sc — single crochet

dc — double crochet

sl st — slip stitch

inc — increase (2 sts in same st)

dec — decrease (sc2tog)

Step 1: Bust Cups (Make 2)

Foundation

Measure from the center of the bust to the underarm (where the side seam will be).

Make a foundation chain equal to this measurement.

Example:

6 inches = ch 18

Work in rows, turning after each row.

Cup Shaping (Wedge)

Work in sc.

Each row:

• sc across

• in the center stitch of the row, work 3 sc into the same stitch

• continue sc to the end

This creates a triangular wedge.

Try on as you go — cup should fully cover the bust.

Example: 8 rows total

Make two identical cups.

Step 2: Join the Cups (Center Front)

Join cups by working a decrease through the center stitches of both cups, forming the dip between them.

Step 3: Fill the Triangle Between Cups

This section fills the space under the bust and evens out the bottom edge.

Attach yarn to the stitch just to the right of the center join.

Each row:

• sc in the center stitch

• sl st into the stitch left of center

• sl st into the stitch above

• inc in the new center stitch

• attach into cup stitch of that row

Continue working upward, increasing into the outer stitches of each new row to expand the triangle between the cups.

Example:

8 rows total

Step 4: Leveling Row Across Entire Front

Work one full row across:

left cup → center triangle → right cup

At join points, make small decreases if needed to smooth the line.

Step 5: Front Body Shaping

Work in sc, turning each row.

Measure your waist circumference and divide by 2.

Continue shaping until width and length reach your waist.

Waist Shaping Options

Decrease at both side edges.

Option A — more dramatic shaping:

Decrease every other row

(decrease, no decrease, repeat)

Option B — softer shaping:

Decrease every third row

(decrease, no decrease, no decrease, repeat)

Example: 16 rows total

Front Point Shaping

After waist width is reached, decrease at both side edges every row to form the pointed front.

Example: 10 rows

Step 6: Back Panels (Make 2)

Measure across your back so that about 6 inches (15 cm) will remain between the two panels for lacing.

Make a foundation chain to this width.

Example: ch 15

Work in sc, turning each row.

Straight Section

Work as many rows as needed to match the height of the bust cups so the top edges line up when assembling.

Example: I worked 20 rows.

Waist Shaping (Match Front)

Decrease at side edge:

Option A: every other row

Option B: every third row

Example: 16 rows

Upper Point

Decrease every row until 2 sts remain.

Make two identical back panels.

Step 7: Lace Holes

Work in dc.

This step can be done now or after the peplum.

Count your stitches and space the holes evenly — this may be every 5th or 6th stitch, depending on your stitch count.

Example pattern:

• 4 dc

• ch 1, skip 1 stitch

Repeat across the row, adjusting if needed to keep spacing even.

Step 8: Assemble Side Seams

Sew front and back panels together at side seams using yarn needle.

Step 9: Top Edge Finish

Work sc evenly around entire top edge of corset.

Step 10: Peplum (Bottom Flare)

Attach yarn to bottom edge.

Round 1:

• sc around

At each side seam: work 2 increases

At each front corner: work 3 sc in the same stitch

Round 2:

• sc in front loop only

• inc every 6 sts

Rounds 3–4:

• sc, no increases

Round 5:

• inc every 7 sts

Rounds 6–7:

• sc, no increases

Round 8:

• inc every 8 sts

Round 9:

• sc, no increases

Step 11: Under-Peplum Ruffle

Attach yarn to back loop of stitches where peplum was joined.

Work in dc.

Round 1: no increases

Round 2: inc every other stitch

Round 3: no increases

Round 4: inc every 2 sts

Round 5: no increases

Round 6: sc around

Fasten off.

Step 12: Lace Cord

Make a chain approx. 78 inches (2 meters) long.

After each chain stitch, pull tight with thumb to make cord firm.

Thread through lace holes.

Finishing

• Fasten off

• Weave in all ends

• Insert lace cord and adjust fit
