Materials

• 100% cotton yarn

• 5 mm crochet hook

• Measuring tape

• Yarn needle

Stitches & Abbreviations (US Terms)

ch — chain

sl st — slip stitch

sc — single crochet

dc — double crochet

Construction Notes

This top is constructed from four mesh panels worked flat in turned rows.

Each panel gradually widens toward the bust using increase rows worked every other row.

The floral details are crocheted directly into the mesh as you work — no sewing required.

Flowers can be placed:

• in a staggered layout

• in straight lines

• with more or less spacing between them

For a staggered layout, the number of mesh cells between flowers should remain odd.

For this version:

• flowers were arranged in a staggered layout

• 3 plain mesh rows were worked between flower rows

The mesh pattern is:

dc + ch 1 repeat.

Measurements

Measure around the upper bust area where you would like the neckline opening to sit.

Divide this measurement by 4.

This becomes the final width of one panel.

Example:

30 in ÷ 4 = 7.5 in

76 cm ÷ 4 = 19 cm

My final panel width:

• 7.5 inches / 19 cm

Panel Construction

Use the included diagram as a visual reference for shaping and flower placement.

Row 1

• Ch 4

• Skip the 6th chain of the foundation chain

• Dc into the 5th chain

• Ch 1

No increases in this row.

• Ch 4

• Turn

Now make flower.

How to Make the Flower

After completing 2 mesh cells:

• Ch 1

• Insert hook into the top of the last dc and make sc

→ creates a small ring

Petals (5 total)

Petal 1 & 2

• Ch 2

• 1 dc into ring

• Ch 2

• Sl st into ring

Petal 3

• Ch 2

• 1 dc into ring

• Ch 2

• Sl st into ring from opposite side of center bar

Petal 4 & 5

Repeat Petal 1.

After completing flower:

• Dc into next stitch to continue mesh pattern

Finish row normally:

• Ch 1

• Dc into next dc stitch

• Ch 1

• Dc into turning chain

Turn.

Row 6 — Increase Row

Repeat Row 4.

Row 7

Plain mesh row.

No increases.

No flowers.

Row 8

Repeat Row 4.

Row 9 — Offset Flower Row

Work same as Row 5, but place 2 flowers in a staggered layout.

Continue Pattern

Continue repeating the same principle:

• increase rows every other row

• flower rows separated by plain mesh rows

• stagger flower placement as desired

Continue until panel reaches desired width.

My final panel:

• 15 rows total

• 7.5 in / 19 cm wide

Make 4 Panels

Create 4 identical panels.

For the second panel, join yarn to the beginning of the first panel and repeat the same construction.

Two panels form the front.

Two panels form the back.

Joining Panels

Join the panels together along the sides using the yarn tails and slip stitches worked with a crochet hook.

Body Length

After joining all 4 panels, continue working downward in turned mesh rows to create body length.

Flowers continue in a staggered layout.

No shaping was used in this version.

Optional Shaping

To Increase Width

Add mesh cells symmetrically at both side edges during increase rows.

To Decrease Width

Remove mesh cells symmetrically from both side edges.

This allows the body to become wider or more fitted.

Continue until desired length is reached.

The final row should be a plain mesh row without flowers.

Example: 19 rows

Edge Finishing

Work on the right side.

The neckline and arm openings were finished with single crochet.

The bottom edge was finished with shell edging.

Option 1 — Shell Edge

• Skip 1 mesh space

• Work 5 dc into next mesh space

• Skip 1 mesh space

• Sl st into next stitch

Repeat around.

Option 2 — Clean Edge

Work single crochet evenly around.

Done!
