CONSTRUCTION NOTES
• The scarf is worked lengthwise in rows.
• The main pattern is worked in hdc BLO.
• The ribbed sections at both ends are worked in YO sl st BLO.
• Each ribbed section consists of 5 stitches.
• The textured design is created using short rows of different lengths.
• The foundation chain must contain a multiple of 8 stitches for the main pattern, plus 10 additional stitches for the ribbed edges.
Sample stitch count:
• 216 stitches for the main pattern
• 5 stitches for the first ribbed edge
• 5 stitches for the second ribbed edge
Total: 226 foundation chains
⸻
HOW TO WORK YARN OVER SLIP STITCH (YO SL ST)
- Yarn over.
- Insert your hook into the next stitch.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop.
- Pull the loop through the remaining 2 loops on your hook.
For YO sl st BLO, insert your hook into the back loop only.
⸻
HOW TO WORK HALF DOUBLE CROCHET (HDC)
- Yarn over.
- Insert your hook into the next stitch.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should have 3 loops on your hook.
- Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.
For hdc BLO: Insert your hook into the back loop only instead of working through both loops.
⸻
JOINING THE STEPPED SECTIONS
The textured pattern creates small steps between short rows.
To create a smooth transition between these sections, connect the stitches at each step as follows:
- Insert your hook under the vertical strand between the two rows at the step.
- Yarn over.
- Insert your hook into the back loop of the next stitch in the lower row.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should now have 4 loops on your hook.
- Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops.

Continue working hdc BLO as instructed.
Repeat this technique whenever you reach a step between short rows.
This helps connect the sections and creates a continuous textured pattern.
⸻
PART 1 — FOUNDATION
The foundation chain should be a multiple of 8 for the main pattern, plus 10 additional chains for the ribbed edges (5 on each side).
Sample: Ch 226 (216 + 10).
Row 1 — Foundation Row
Ch 1.
Work 5 YO sl st into the back bumps of the foundation chain for the first ribbed section.
Work 216 hdc into the back bumps of the foundation chain.
Work 5 YO sl st into the back bumps of the foundation chain for the second ribbed section.
Total: 226 sts

⸻
Row 3 — Pattern Row 2
Ch 1, turn.
Work 5 YO sl st BLO.
Work 1 hdc BLO in each stitch across the main pattern, joining the stepped sections as you go.
At each step, insert your hook into the vertical strand between the rows before completing the next stitch in the lower row.

Continue until you have worked 216 hdc BLO across the main section.
Work 5 YO sl st BLO.
Total: 226 sts
⸻
Row 4 — Pattern Row 3
Ch 1, turn.
Work 5 YO sl st BLO.
Work 216 hdc BLO across the main section.
Work 5 YO sl st BLO.
Total: 226 sts

This row prepares the fabric for the next pattern repeat and creates a mirrored appearance in the textured design.
⸻
PART 3 — REPEATING THE PATTERN
Repeat Rows 2–4 until the scarf reaches your desired width.
Each repeat creates another section of the textured design.
The short rows form the raised pattern, while the following full-length rows connect and balance the texture.
Continue maintaining 5 YO sl st BLO stitches at each end.

⸻
PART 4 — FINISHING
Once the scarf reaches your desired width:
- Fasten off.
- Weave in all yarn ends.
Lightly block if needed to even out the edges and define the textured pattern.
⸻
CUSTOMIZATION
Length: Adjust the foundation chain using a multiple of 8 stitches for the main pattern, plus 10 additional stitches for the ribbed edges.
Width: Repeat Rows 2–4 until the scarf reaches your preferred width.
Yarn: Different yarn weights and hook sizes may affect the finished measurements and texture.
